Despite being constantly connected, we’re more bored than ever. Inzlicht and Tam reveal that the endless stream of digital content doesn’t enrich our lives—it scatters our attention. Every ping, swipe, and scroll pulls us in multiple directions, leaving little space for deep, satisfying engagement. This fragmented focus creates a mismatch between the stimulation we crave and the emptiness we feel, fueling boredom instead of easing it. The more we chase instant entertainment, the harder it becomes to find meaning in the moment. Ironically, our high-speed digital lives may be making our inner worlds feel increasingly flat and restless.
